This series addresses issues of identity, feminism, and citizenship, questioning the disappearance of the body in the constructed attire of femininity, and conjuring it back in unexpected forms. It also reveals a persistent curiosity about death and rebirth. Still lives turned into portraits, which I set out to deconstruct again in twenty-five 12" x 12" paintings focusing on fragments, details of texture in bone, horn, fabric, metal, and their juxtapositions. Ideally, they would be displayed together in such a way as to offer the observer a chance to displace and rearrange them, giving the fragmented portrait a life of their own.
Exploring abstraction.
